Paradise lost!!
The harsh winter kept me home all the time in the past months. I felt like a prisoner , confined to home. Its quite sad that i never got an opportunity to explore this beautiful city. While driving down to Saint Paul today, which is not too far away from the place i live, i realised that i am living in one of the most beautiful and elegant city. The place has a certain charm that will not go unnoticed. I chose to make a visit to the different museums and art places over skiing and it indeed was one of my best decisions. After fixing up the gps system , we started off sometime after noon. A 15 mile drive and we reached our destination. The Saint Paul Cathedral church is easily a century old or perhaps more as i noticed wall carvings of the early 1900s. It is a magnificient bulding built on an expansive landscape overlooking the Capitol building. The Cathedral has several doors and we entered stealthly from one of those only to find us infront of a huge gathering of people listening to a sermon. We settled in one corner and waited for the people to disperse. We walked around the Cathedral and took pictures of the amazing interiors. For all those who know of it, the confession box reminded me of the movie Euro Trip.
The City has its own university that offers a variety of courses. It has a sprawling campus spread across thousands of acres that houses several Museums. Apparently, the bell museum is more of a children's museum but it was fun watching the displays and posing with them. Minnesota shelters a range of species, both animals and birds. The museum has one entire section dedicated to the 'harmful effects of Co2'. Evidently, America emits more Co2 than anyother country does and if it continues to do so, it will be responsible for the extinction of several endangered species and global warming. A host of issues can be eliminated if Co2 emission is controlled. Care to listen?
A walk by the Mississipi river reminded me of the beautiful beaches in India. I am yet to visit Guthrie theater, millcity museum and the farmer's market. Hoping to see more of this city in the months to come.
